30 Years Since the Genocide in Srebrenica

As the world has once again descended into war and instability the likes of which we have not witnessed since the end of World War II, the Genocide in Srebrenica stands as a stark, recent, and nearby example of the ruinous consequences of unleashed nationalist impulses combined with the inaction of the international community. This dossier was compiled from our existing work on the topic, as well as new articles, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the genocide. It illustrates the continuing denial of culpability that has been promulgated as state policy in Serbia, as well as the impunity of those who were directly responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

How to Save a General

Milenko Živanović was acquitted on July 1, 2025, before the Higher Court in Belgrade on all counts of the indictment that charged him with ordering the forcible displacement of civilian population from the zone of responsibility of the Drina Corps, as well as with participating, through his orders and actions, in the forcible displacement of civilians from the protected zone of Srebrenica. The general's defense team included his chosen lawyer, the public prosecutor, and the judicial panel.

25 Years Since the Srebrenica Genocide Don’t deny! Remember!

They talk about that time, about the summer of 1995, when they were children, when they had to pack their toys hastily in order to get themselves into safety from the Serbian troops. The attacks, the fears – the world seemed to stand still for them then. They talk about how it felt at that time when the then so-called UN safe area no longer provided any protection. How it felt when the hopes to get protection from the internationals from the hatred of the advancing Serbs, dissolved into thin air. At that time, when the international community folded in face of the violence overrunning the whole of Bosnia since 1992 and ultimately culminating in Srebrenica. At some point, as reported by one of the survivors, she understood that she did not have a father anymore.
