The Belgrade office of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung welcomes applications for the new position of Communications Coordinator starting on October 1st, 2024. The deadline for applications is August 26, 2024.
The place of work is Belgrade. This is a part-time position (20 hours/week). The position can be increased to a full-time position following an evaluation.

The Heinrich Böll Stiftung (hbs), affiliated with the Green Party in Germany, is a legally independent political foundation. Headquartered in Berlin, we have more than 30 offices around the world. The hbs Belgrade office is funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and is responsible for programs in Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo. The main objectives of hbs Belgrade office are to promote democracy and human rights, gender equality, social and environmental justice, and international dialogue. About the vacancy:
Within our current program phase (2024-2026) we are focusing on political culture and dialogue, climate and sustainable development and gender democracy. Our work supports civil society and green & progressive political actors based on human rights principles. We collaborate with partners (civil society organizations, activist groups, academic institutions, etc.), but also conceptualise and implement our own activities.
Main tasks and responsibilities of the Communications coordinator:
- Ensuring communication output and quality in line with hbs communication guidelines and organization identity;
- Ongoing support for updating and implementing hbs’ communication strategy;
- Draft and edit internal and external communication materials, including press releases, newsletters, and social media posts;
- Manage social media accounts and website, creating and curating content to engage the audience and promote the organization's image;
- Collaborate with programme staff to gather information and insights for effective communication strategies;
- Manage communication-related external service providers e.g. video editors, designers etc.;
- Monitor the media landscape in Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo and the region and advise the office on upcoming trends;
- Coordinate media relations, including pitching stories, and advising the staff on media inquiries;
- Liaise with the HQ and other international offices on publications and events;
- Respond to public inquiries and maintain positive relationships with partners and the public;
- Stay updated on communication trends, tools, and best practices;
- Undertaking travels in the region (approximately 2-3 times per year).
We require:
- University or equivalent degree, preferably in areas of journalism, communications, social science or similar;
- Minimum of 2 years professional experience or proven track record;
- Language skills: oral and written fluency in BCS (Bosnian/ Croatian/ Serbian), excellent knowledge of English (C1/ C2). Knowledge of German or Albanian is an asset;
- Solid writing and editing skills of preparing online and offline text and content;
- Experience with social media tools and content management systems;
- Creative skills: Layout, design of post for social media and multimedia;
- Experience with Adobe software (e.g. Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign) and/or Illustrator;
- Knowledge of the national media landscape;
- Excellent time-management, communication and organizational skills;
- Gender sensitivity, capacity to work in a diverse environment and intercultural competence;
- High attention to detail and sense of responsibility;
- Identification with green values – ecology, justice, equality, democracy, peace – and the mission of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung.
Desirable:
- Good network in the civic sector in Serbia;
- Good understanding of and interest in politics and current affairs in Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo;
